Well, I have managed to keep proper neck pain at bay with my new stretches since I started this blog, despite one or two scares. Now however it's that time again and the left hand side has flared up. Have had to take ibuprofen and co-codamol three times since yesterday lunchtime, but I've not taken any today since breakfast. Did the stretches this afternoon in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil and I did feel a bit better. Having some caffeine - partly because this heat is making me sleepy and partly because of its alleged pain relieving qualities.
I had a lovely lunchtime - I walked down the drive and sat under a tree in the sunshine. Rang Euan and we chatted about his time in Aus - good to hear that overall it was a successful trip, and it sounds like he enjoyed the visit. So probably being away from the desk for a good 40 mins helped my neck too.
There's a possibility that a payment might come in tomorrow which would mean that the July wages could be paid. Now that we're down to 2.5 days a week it's going to be a thin end to the summer. Ha! Not a thin me most likely. I wish I was one of those who loses weight when I'm worried. I should be like a stick insect by now ;-)

Uh oh
Uh oh - left side neck starting up. I blame the ED who has managed to piss me off big style twice in the last two days.

Post Two
Morning, morning! Just arrived at work, made a brew and quickly jotting down some stuff before the Ladies arrive.
So, the cough doesn't seem to have affected my neck too much - but then I am sort of remembering to do my exercises too. My body is concentrating on the other stress responses since being told that we're unlikely to be paid at the end of the month. So yesterday I had a flashy eye (ocular migraine) and I've been having to take the IBS tablets too, but it's all manageable at the moment.
Last night we went on a coach trip up to the top of the quarry in our village. Amazing views would have been had if it hadn't been for the clouds! Apparently you can see the Maughan Mountains in Ireland on a clear day, as well as the Isle of Man and Blackpool tower - well, it is 1200 metres above sea level! It was a really interesting trip with two blokes giving a running commentary - one on the quarry in recent years and the other on the history of the quarry and the mountain. The Iron Age hut circles from the Braich-y-Dinas hill fort http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/56668/images/BRAICH-Y-DINAS+HILLFORT,++PENMAENMAWR/ used to stand 4 feet high before they started digging away at the mountain - but as the guy said, it was post WW1 when they started digging at that particular bit and the national feeling was more about jobs for heroes rather than ancient remains. It's all part of the ongoing history of the mountain, but what a pity! :-( We could have had our own Jarlsberg here. Hey ho. Hoping to be able to go to the Viking Festival in Amlwch a week on Saturday - there'll even be a boat burning. If we've got enough petrol to get there and it's not piddling down then it should be a great event.

Well here we are again. Day something or other and I've had no neck problems for a while now. Other stress reactions, oh yes indeedy, but my neck has been ok which is quite amazing seeing as we haven't been paid for July yet and we don't know when we're going to be, or if we're going to be.
I am a bit stiff in the joints but I'm thinking that a lot of that might be down to needing new orthotics and I've already requested to be sent back to the hospital for more.

Day One
It's a pain in the neck, my bad neck, and it's trying to take over my life. But there's more to life than a pain in the neck so this blog will be about my whole life and not just the ouch factor. Saying that though, I am going to track the ups and downs of living with a pain in the neck, so I'd better start myself off with a summary of its activities since I went to the osteopath last week.
So, I went to the osteopath with what felt like the neck muscles in spasm. This is usually a precursor to a proper Bad Neck where I end up with 2 to 5 days of intense pain starting in my neck and coming right over my head to my eye and cheek bones. I'd had a cold (I'd forgotten how properly miserable a bad cold can be) and I'd been coughing a lot so that had probably triggered it. The O(steopath) had worked on the muscles but I still came away feeling less than great. During the night it was pretty rough and kept me awake and it stayed rough way till Sunday. It was good to realise it had gone on Sunday so that I could properly enjoy a walk down on the front at Llanfairfechan with Kev, my dad and Sue (not-so-evil-stepmum). We had a look at the gardens of the Arts and Crafts houses down there on the front - someone's worked really hard on one of them and it looks beautiful. One of the others had the garden open to the public later in the afternoon with tea, but it was too late for our requirements. We needed sustenance there and then, so it was off to the Pavilion Beach Cafe.
Monday was a busy day at our students' graduations in Manchester. I was also worried about our potential redundancy situation at work, so stayed relaxed with Dr Vino. Yesterday I fully expected to go to work to be told that that was it, the company was dead in the water, but instead the Executive Director (henceforth known as ED) announced a possible stay of execution - good news, but we're unlikely to be paid this month - or not on time anyway. You'd think the worry of that might set my neck off again, but no surprisingly it was my cough that made a reappearance. I was also distracted by my The Geek (self-styled) getting a kitten - she's so sweet - I'd forgotten how you have to hold tiny kittens in both hands for fear of crushing them. Seems ages since Lola and Geoff were kittens.
Today I think my neck might be getting slightly irritated by the coughing again :-( Must do the O's exercises! Just settling down to watch The Fog - is this a good idea just before bed? Is it any scarier than the thought of not being paid? Actually I don't know how scary The Fog is rated on the suspense scale. Perhaps I'll go to bed and read my new novel instead - a gory murder mystery translated from Swedish.
